Instructions: You cannot heat this in a microwave.
This base normally comes in blocks but we also have an option for grated soap so you can move along to the fun stuff quicker!
Place the grated soap in a stainless steel double boiler, bain marie, slow cooker, boil in bag or an oven.
You can melt the soap with no extra liquid if you wish. However, part of the fun of Rebatch is adding liquids such as Rose or Orange Blossom water, Coconut Milk, Normal Milk, Beer or just plain water!
For most vegetable oil based soap use 150-250ml of liquid to every 500g of soap. How much you add will determine how long you need to leave the soap to dry out and that's OK because this base doesn't get glycerin sweat.
Cover the pot and allow the mixture to warm up, stirring occasionally (every 15 mins?). Your mixture will be the consistency of mashed potato once heated depending on how much liquid you have used.
Once your base has started to become a more liquid consistency If you might want to blend the soap using a stick blender or standard hand mixer. You can blend the soap in the pot. If the soap is lumpy a hand mixer may be the best way to mix it. You want to get it blended before it starts to set up. If you leave the heat on and blend this is not a problem. Lumpy is OK though and you can miss out this section completely if you’re happy with the consistency.
Once the soap has melted you can stir in any essential oils, fragrances, oatmeal, herbs, cocoa butter, etc that you wish to add.
Pour or spoon into the molds. You can texturise or flatten the top. Allow the soap to set up for day or so, pop it from the molds and let it dry out for a few days.
